How Novaxera's Arabic OCR works
Novaxera's Arabic OCR sends your image or PDF to Tesseract, the widely used open-source OCR engine, with its Arabic language model preselected. For PDFs, each page is rendered at about 144 DPI and recognized in turn, with “--- Page N ---” separators in the output.
The recognized text is saved as a UTF-8 plain-text .txt file, so Arabic characters and right-to-left text display correctly in modern editors. Formatting, layout and images are not kept. Uploads are deleted after processing, and the text file is deleted automatically within 60 minutes.

Limitations to know
- Printed Arabic gives the clearest results; handwriting and decorative or calligraphic fonts are not reliably recognized.
- Diacritics (tashkeel) may be missed or misread.
- One language per run: for mixed Arabic and English pages, run English separately with Image to Text.
- No formatting is kept; the output is plain text.
Tips for better results
- Use clean, straight, high-contrast scans; fix sideways PDF pages with Rotate PDF first.
- Need to change Arabic text inside a digital PDF instead? Use the PDF editor, which supports right-to-left text.
- For scanned PDFs in other languages, use PDF to Text.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract Arabic text from an image?
Upload the image to Novaxera's Arabic OCR, start the recognition and download the .txt file. The language is already set to Arabic, and Tesseract's Arabic model reads the printed text. JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF and GIF images are accepted, as well as PDFs.
Can Novaxera's Arabic OCR read handwriting?
No. Novaxera's Arabic OCR is designed for printed Arabic text; handwriting and decorative or calligraphic fonts are not reliably recognized. Clear printed text in standard fonts, scanned straight and with good contrast, gives the most accurate results.
Does Arabic OCR recognize diacritics (tashkeel)?
Not reliably. Novaxera's Arabic OCR may miss or misread diacritics, so fully vowelized text can need manual correction after recognition. Clean, straight, high-contrast scans of printed text help reduce errors, and proofreading the .txt file against the original is recommended.
How do I OCR a document with both Arabic and English?
Run it twice. Novaxera's OCR recognizes one language per run, so Arabic OCR handles the Arabic text, and a second run with English selected in Image to Text handles the English parts. Combine the two text files afterwards.
Is it safe to upload Arabic documents for OCR?
Yes. Novaxera's Arabic OCR receives files over an encrypted HTTPS connection, deletes the upload once recognition finishes, and deletes the .txt file automatically within 60 minutes. Documents are not shared or used for anything else.
Is Arabic OCR free, and does it work on phones?
Yes. Novaxera's Arabic OCR is free with no signup, accepts one image or PDF of up to 50 MB per upload, and works in modern browsers on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, with nothing to install.
