How Novaxera's Compress Image works
Novaxera's image compressor treats each format differently. JPEG and WebP images are re-encoded at quality 75 with the encoder's optimization switched on, which trades a little fine detail for a smaller file and usually gives the biggest savings. PNG images are optimized losslessly, so not a single pixel changes, but the saving is usually smaller. The width and height of the image always stay the same, and the output keeps the input's format.
Images are uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection and compressed on Novaxera's servers. The original upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes, and the compressed file is removed automatically within 60 minutes. Camera metadata (EXIF), which can include GPS location, is generally not carried over to a compressed JPEG. BMP, TIFF and GIF files see little or no saving; for a much smaller file, change the format first with the image format converter.
Why use Novaxera's Compress Image
Same dimensions, same format
A 3000 × 2000 px JPG comes back as a 3000 × 2000 px JPG, so it still fits any layout it was made for.
Exact result reporting
After compression you see “Reduced by X%” plus the old and new size, so you know immediately whether it meets an upload limit.
Lossless PNG optimization
PNG screenshots and graphics are optimized without changing any pixels, which keeps text and sharp edges crisp.
Six input formats
JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF and TIFF are all accepted in the same upload box.
No watermark, no account
The compressed image is clean and free to download, and you never need to create an account.
Common use cases
Website speed
Smaller JPG and WebP images load faster on product pages, blogs and landing pages.
Upload limits on forms
Job portals, visa applications and school systems often cap photo size; compressing a JPG usually gets it under the limit.
Email and chat
Shrink phone photos before attaching them so messages send faster and use less mailbox space.
Online stores
Lighter product photos keep marketplace listings and shop pages quick to load.
Limitations to know
- There is no resize option: dimensions stay the same, so a very large photo stays large in pixels.
- PNG savings are usually small because the optimization is lossless; converting to JPG or WebP with Convert Image gives bigger savings (JPG loses transparency).
- BMP, TIFF and GIF files get little or no reduction.
- Animated GIFs keep only the first frame after compression.
Tips for better results
- For website images, convert PNG photos to WebP first, then compress them for the smallest practical file.
- If you need a smaller PDF instead of a smaller picture, use Compress PDF, which downsizes embedded images over 1200 px.
- Compress a cut-out from Remove Background to keep its transparency while trimming the PNG.
- Keep your original file: JPEG and WebP compression at quality 75 cannot be undone.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Novaxera's image compressor reduce file size?
Novaxera's image compressor saves the most on JPEG and WebP files, which are re-encoded at quality 75. The exact reduction depends on the image, so no fixed percentage applies. After each run the page shows the actual result as “Reduced by X% (old → new size)”, so you can check it immediately.
Does compressing an image change its dimensions?
No. Novaxera's image compressor keeps the exact width and height of your image and returns it in the same format you uploaded. Only the file size changes. There is no option to resize the picture, so a 4000 px wide photo is still 4000 px wide after compression.
Why did my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG files shrink less because Novaxera optimizes them losslessly, without changing any pixels. That protects text and sharp edges but limits the saving. For a much smaller file, convert the PNG to JPG or WebP with the image converter first; note that JPG fills transparent areas with white.
Is it safe to compress photos on Novaxera?
Yes. Photos are sent to Novaxera over an encrypted HTTPS connection, compressed on its servers, and the original upload is deleted as soon as processing finishes. The compressed image is deleted automatically within 60 minutes and is not shared or used for anything else. EXIF data, which can include GPS location, is generally not carried over to compressed JPEGs.
Is the image compressor free, and what are the limits?
Yes, Novaxera's image compressor is free with no signup and no watermark. Each image can be up to 50 MB, and you compress one image per upload. The site is supported by ads. Download your result promptly, because it is deleted automatically within 60 minutes.
Can I compress an image on my iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. Novaxera's image compressor works in any modern browser on iPhone, iPad and Android, as well as Windows, macOS and Linux, with nothing to install. Open the Compress Image page, pick a photo from your gallery or files, and tap Download when the result appears.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Animated GIFs lose their animation when compressed on Novaxera: only the first frame is kept. GIF, BMP and TIFF files also tend to show little or no size reduction. If you need a small still image from a GIF, convert it to JPG, PNG or WebP with the image format converter.
Can I compress several images at once?
No. Novaxera's image compressor handles one image per upload, so compress each picture separately. If your goal is to bundle many photos into a single document, use Images to PDF, which accepts several images at once, and then shrink the PDF with Compress PDF.
